Author Guidelines
Introduction
JASAE | Journal of Applied Science and Advanced Engineering is an international, multidiscipline, open-access, peer-reviewed scholarly Journal published by Master Program in Mechanical Engineering, School of Graduate Studies, Gunadarma University, Indonesia. The Journal aims to become an international forum for the research and development community to publish articles of the highest quality in all science and engineering disciplines. Therefore, we welcome papers relating directly or indirectly to all aspects of these fields to submit.
The Journal publishes only original research articles. All submitted manuscripts are subject to the initial evaluation by the Editors. Then, the manuscripts will go through a peer review if they are suitable for further consideration. We will assign independent, anonymous reviewers for assessment.
The Journal is published in May, and September two times a year. Please read our editorial and publishing policies before submitting a manuscript.
Submission
Submission of an article to JASAE implies that the work described has not been published in whole or part and is not being considered for publication elsewhere. All the listed authors should have agreed on the content, and the corresponding (submitting) Author is responsible for ensuring that this agreement has been reached. The acceptance of an article is based entirely on its scientific merit, as judged by peer review.
The authors are kindly invited to submit the paper through our online submission system. First, register to our system, then follow the five steps of a new submission. In case of difficulty, please do not hesitate to contact the website administrator for assistance. The Author then can track the submission through the editorial process and participate in the copyediting and proofreading of submissions accepted for publication by logging in and using the username and password provided.
Authorship
Before submitting manuscripts, authors are asked to provide the definitive list of authors at the time of the original submission. Any change in the authorship list, i.e., addition, deletion, or rearrangement of author names, should be requested from the corresponding Author. Such a change can be possible if the corresponding Author provides the reason and written confirmation from all authors. Authorship changes are permitted only before the manuscript's acceptance and with the Editor's approval.
Competing interest
On behalf of all authors, the corresponding authors are responsible for disclosing any financial and personal links they have with other individuals or organizations that could unduly affect (bias) their work. Employment, consulting, honoraria, patent applications/registrations, and grants or additional funding are examples of potential conflicts of interest. If all authors have no conflict of interest, the corresponding authors have to declare no conflict of interest.
Peer Review
Submitted manuscripts are sent to a minimum of two independent expert reviewers to assess the paper's scientific quality. The Editor has the right to decide on the acceptance or rejection of articles. The Editor's decision is final.
By the policy, JASAE employs double anonymized peer review, meaning the authors' identities are concealed from the reviewers and vice versa. More information on our peer review policy can be found here.
Submission Content
The submission material must consist of the following:
- An original manuscript (A Word or PDF file containing the title, abstract, keywords, main text, references, figures, tables, and acknowledgments. The manuscript may include author names and affiliations. The editorial team will anonymize the manuscript before it is sent for peer review. Authors are requested to prepare the manuscript according to the journal’s official format/template),
- A cover letter (This should include the title, name of the author(s), affiliations, acknowledgments, any Declaration of Interest statement, and a complete address for the corresponding Author, including an e-mail address. Please see the instructions for writing the cover letter and use our template)
Incomplete or improperly prepared submissions will be rejected with explanatory comments provided. In this case, we will kindly ask the authors to read the Information for Authors carefully and resubmit their manuscripts, considering our comments.
Cover Letter Instructions
Please add a cover letter with the following information about the submitted paper:
- The paper title
Concise and informative. Titles are often used in information retrieval systems. Avoid abbreviations and formulae where possible. - List of authors and their affiliations
Please clearly indicate each Author's given name(s) and family name(s) and check that all names are accurately spelled. Present the authors' affiliation addresses below the names. Indicate all affiliations with a lowercase superscript letter immediately after the Author's name and in front of the appropriate address. Provide the full postal address of each affiliation, including the country name and the e-mail address of each Author - Corresponding Author.
Indicate who will handle correspondence at all refereeing, publication, and post-publication stages. This responsibility includes answering any future queries about Methodology and Materials. Ensure that the e-mail address is given and that contact details are kept up to date by the corresponding Author. One corresponding Author should be provided. - A declaration that neither the manuscript nor the essence of its content has been published in whole or in part previously and that it is not being considered for publication elsewhere.
- State the value of the paper or its practical, theoretical, and scientific implications. What is new in the paper concerning the state-of-the-art in the published papers? Do not repeat the content of your abstract for this purpose.
- Reviewer suggestions. We kindly ask you to suggest at least three reviewers for your article and give us their names, full affiliations and contact information, and scientific research interests. The suggested reviewers should have at least two relevant references published in reputable journals to the scientific field concerned; they should not be from the same institution as the authors and should have no close connection with the authors.
Contents of Manuscripts
The manuscript must include the items described below and follow the article template. In addition, the main file must include the title, abstract, keywords, and text pages. Please note that the text pages should not have the authors' names or affiliations.
Title, abstracts, and keywords
Please supply a title, not more than 12 words, that adequately describes the manuscript's content. Manuscripts should also include an abstract of a maximum of 250 words that describes the purpose of your research, the methods or approaches you used, your results, and your conclusions. In addition, please write 3 to 6 essential keywords beneath the abstract to aid indexing.
Please note that the title, keywords, and abstract are critical to ensuring readers find your article online through search engines such as Google. Therefore, please write your titles and abstracts with a global, interdisciplinary audience in mind.
Text pages
The structure of the text pages should be as follows: introduction, material and methods, results, discussion, conclusions, acknowledgments, conflicts of interest, nomenclature, and references.
- Introduction
State the objectives of the work and provide an adequate background, avoiding a detailed literature survey or a summary of the results. - Material and methods
Provide sufficient details to allow the work to be reproduced by an independent researcher. Methods already published should be summarized and indicated by a reference. If quoting directly from a previously published method, use quotation marks and cite the source. Any modifications to existing methods should also be described. - Results
Results should clearly and concisely present the data, using figures and tables where appropriate. - Discussion
This should explore the significance of the results of the work, not repeat them. Avoid extensive citations and discussion of published literature. Combining the Results and Discussion sections into a single section may be appropriate to improve clarity. - Conclusions
The study's main conclusions may be presented in a short Conclusions section, which may stand alone or form a subsection of a Discussion or Results and Discussion section. - Author Contributions
We strongly encourage authors to include author contributions and recommend using CRediT for standardised contribution descriptions. - Acknowledgments.
Please state any funding sources or individuals who provided help during the research. For example, if funding is from a block grant or other resources available to a university, college, or other research institution, submit the name of the institute or organization that provided the funding. - Competing interest
Please declare any potential competing interest (or lack thereof) for each contributing Author. If all authors have nothing to declare, please state, "The authors(s) declare no competing interest." - Nomenclature (optional).
Papers with many symbols should have a nomenclature that defines all symbols with units inserted above the references. If one is used, it must contain all the symbols used in the manuscript and the definitions should not be repeated in the text. In all cases, identify the symbols used if they are not widely recognized in the profession. Define acronyms in the text, not in the nomenclature. - References
Reference must be cited consecutively in the text using square brackets [1] and collected together in a reference list at the end of the manuscript.
Units
The SI system of units for nomenclature, symbols, and abbreviations should be followed closely. Symbols for physical quantities in the text should be written in italics (i.e., v, T, n, etc.). Symbols for units that consist of letters should be in plain text (i.e., ms-1, K, min, mm, etc.).
Math formulae
Please submit math equations as editable text and not as images.
Abbreviations
This should be spelled out in full on the first appearance, followed by the abbreviation in parentheses, i.e., active noise cancellation (ANC). The meaning of symbols and units belonging to symbols should be explained in each case or cited in a nomenclature section at the end of the manuscript before the References.
Figures
Figures must be cited in consecutive numerical order in the text and referred to in both the text and the captions as Fig. 1, Fig. 2, etc. Figures should be prepared without borders and on white grounding and should be inserted in-line text. If a figure is composed of several parts, please mark each part with a), b), c), etc., and explain each part in the Figure caption. The caption should be self-explanatory. Letters and numbers should be readable (use Arial font, min 6 pt with equal sizes and fonts in all figures). Graphics may be exported in good resolution (min. 300 dpi) in any standard format, i.e., TIFF, BMP, JPG, or PDF.
Tables
Tables should carry separate titles and must be numbered in consecutive numerical order in the text and referred to in both the text and the captions as Table 1, Table 2, etc. In addition to the physical quantities, such as t (in italics), the units [s] (normal text) should be added in square brackets. Tables should not duplicate data found elsewhere in the manuscript. Tables should be prepared using a table editor and not inserted as a graphic.
References
Authors are required to prepare references in accordance with the IEEE citation style. All references cited in the manuscript must appear in the reference list, and all entries in the reference list must be cited in the text.
In the main text, references should be cited using Arabic numerals in square brackets, numbered in the order of first appearance, for example [1], [2], or [3]–[5]. The same reference number must be used each time the same source is cited. References should not use the author–date format.
The reference list must be placed at the end of the manuscript under the heading “References”. Entries should be arranged numerically, not alphabetically. Authors’ names should be written in IEEE format, with initials preceding surnames. Article titles should be written in sentence case and placed within quotation marks, while journal and conference names should be italicized using accepted abbreviations where appropriate.
Authors are strongly encouraged to ensure that each reference is complete and accurate, including:
- author name(s),
- full article or book title,
- journal or conference title,
- volume and issue number,
- page range or article number,
- year of publication,
- DOI, where available.
For journal articles, the preferred IEEE format is:
[Reference number] Initial(s). Surname, “Title of article,” Abbreviated Journal Title, vol. x, no. x, pp. xxx–xxx, year, doi: xxx.
For conference papers, the format is:
[Reference number] Initial(s). Surname, “Title of paper,” in Proc. Name of Conference, location, year, pp. xxx–xxx, doi: xxx.
For books, the format is:
[Reference number] Initial(s). Surname, Book Title. City, State/Country: Publisher, year.
For book chapters, theses, reports, and online sources, authors should follow the standard IEEE format appropriate to the source type. If a source has a DOI, it should be included whenever possible. URLs may be included for online المصادر only when no DOI is available or when the source is exclusively web-based.
Authors should use recent, relevant, and reputable sources, especially peer-reviewed journal articles. Excessive reliance on non-scholarly websites, unpublished materials, or inaccessible sources should be avoided. References must be carefully checked for consistency in punctuation, capitalization, abbreviation, and ordering to ensure full compliance with IEEE style.
